About Us

Successful coaching is an art
as well as a science.

Who am I?

Well, to start with, my name is Amanda Moore.

I’ve always loved running—one of the few kids who actually looked forward to cross country and didn’t hide behind the sheds to avoid it. After finishing school, my passion for endurance grew quickly. I completed my first marathon in Melbourne in 2011, then fell in love with triathlon in 2013, taking on my first Ironman Distance race in Cairns in 2015.

One of the biggest advantages of working with me is that I’ve been the athlete chasing big endurance goals. I understand the physical and mental demands, the time pressures, and the effort it takes to balance training with real life. This experience helps me identify your strengths and highlight areas to improve—not just from a coaching lens, but from lived experience.

I began by coaching runners, then naturally expanded into triathlon coaching because of my passion for the sport. Over time, my professional pathway evolved, and I am now proud to be both a coach and a qualified allied health professional.

Accreditations & Professional Background

Yes, I have them—and now a few more:

  • Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP), Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science / Exercise Physiology

  • Accredited Performance Triathlon Coach, Triathlon Australia

  • Head Coach, The Active Project

  • Accredited Level 2 Advanced Recreational Run Coach, Athletics Australia

My Exercise Physiology qualification now allows me to support people not only in athletic performance but also in managing chronic conditions, injury rehabilitation, functional movement, strength development and long-term health.

If you’re interested in AEP appointments, assessments or personalised exercise therapy, you’ll find a dedicated page with all the details here.

A Bit More About Me

Since 2019, I’ve welcomed two beautiful children, Arthur and Penelope. Motherhood has deepened my understanding of time management, identity, fatigue, and the challenge of fitting fitness around life. Running remains my happy place—my reset button—and that passion flows directly into the way I coach and support you.

I don’t just train high-performance athletes (yes, including Kona World Championship qualifiers). I also work with complete beginners, busy parents, people training for their first 5 km, and those simply wanting to stay fit. Whether you’re building confidence, chasing a PB, or preparing for long-course triathlon, I can help.

Coaching is available locally or remotely—wherever you live, you can join The Active Project family.

What do I do?

When you’re an athlete, progress doesn’t come from how much you train—it comes from how you train. You can run seven days a week, but without structure, purpose and progression, your results will plateau.

There’s no single “perfect” program for everyone. You have your own goals, strengths, barriers and physiology. At The Active Project, I use up-to-date training methods, tools and technologies to design personalised programs that meet you where you are.

At the start of our work together, I take time to understand:

  • Your goals

  • Your training history

  • How you respond to different cues

  • What motivates you

  • Your lifestyle and available time

From there, I create a customised plan—no stock templates or generic sessions—so you know exactly why you’re doing the training you’re doing.

Everything is tailored, individualised and one-on-one.

What people are saying.

Having run and swum since childhood, a friend suggested giving triathlon a go. After completing an intro to tri course with Amanda as one of the coaches, I was hooked! That was in 2017 and I continue with Amanda through her online coaching today.

Juggling full time work, a family and training is never easy but she has always been supportive and willing to adapt my training plans to fit with everyday life.

Her calm and encouraging nature, along with expertise in training for all distances has helped me to step out of my comfort zone, grow as a triathlete and last year I completed my first 70.3 - something I never thought possible!

Would highly recommend Amanda as your coach!

I started working with Amanda in 2017, after some time researching triathlon coaches in Brisbane.  After meeting with her, I knew that she was someone that I could work with and understood what I wanted from a coach.  Being brand new to the sport of triathlon but with a background in swimming, I was ambitious and knew that I needed a good coach to help me channel my efforts in the right way to achieve my goals.

After my first full season of working with Amanda, I was able to take my performance to the next level, regularly finishing in the top 10 for my age group.  I attribute most of this success to the path Amanda laid out for me.  Her workouts are structured in a way that are smart, specific and able to fit in with your family/work/life commitments.

As a coach, Amanda has been my mentor from which I have learned so much.  Her ability to relate to the athletes and structure sessions, push the athletes to their personal limit based on their own fitness, time and abilities across the three sports.  This enable athletes to get the most out of every session.  This support, planning, and preparation leads to athletes being able to compete confidently at their highest level come race day.

Under Amanda’s guidance and a lot of hard work, after just 2 years I achieved my goal of qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.  I would highly recommend Amanda as a coach for you if you want to be the best athlete you can be.

I first started triathlon in March 2018 when I signed up for the Noosa Tri for Team Cure Brain Cancer.  At that point, I lifted heavy weights and cardio was a dirty word.  I hadn't ridden a bike in maybe 10 years and I'd never run farther than 5k (even that I only did once)!  Through sheer luck and perhaps a freak genetic throwback (neither of my parents are athletic), I could swim!  One outta three ain't bad!

My first year, whilst thankfully, I had the help of my strength coaches and my physiotherapist (I'd torn my MCL in November 2017) I pretty much winged it.  I finished but boy did it burn!  From that point, I was hooked (no surprises there, Triathlon is FUN!) and wanted to do better.  I engaged the help of Amanda in March 2019 to coach me through my next season, aiming to beat my time for the 2019 Noosa Tri.  Whilst I am competitive with myself, I do Triathlon for charity, to prove to myself I can and for fitness and fun.  At this stage, if I ever Podium, it'll be because only 2 other people entered the race!

Amanda coaches the weekend warriors, like me, through to more competitive, serious athletes and does so successfully as she designs the programes to fit the individual; no one size fits all biz here!  She uses YOUR goals and YOUR performance/health/mood (oh it's a thing!) to push you appropriately.  Amanda thinks outside the box to formulate plans to accommodate all the things that life throws at you (illness, family stuff, work etc.) and is always available to discuss any changes, concerns, ideas, new goals or just to share the story of that thing that happened whilst you were training today.

Triathlon can be hard and feels all consuming sometimes (weirdly they're also some of the reasons we tend to choose this sport!).  Even if you're aiming to knock Ashleigh Gentle off the podium, you should be aiming to get there with a coach that can not only maximise your performance whilst minimising your risk of injury, but does so in a personable, supportive and engaging way.  Doesn't hurt if your coach has a wicked sense of humour too!  Thanks to Amanda's programming, I did beat my 2018 finish time...by 24 minutes!  I can't wait to see what I can accomplish with Amanda's guidance in the seasons to come.

In a world full of “one size fits” all it is amazing to find a coach that is so determined to understand each athletes individual journey and what success means for them. Once Amanda knows where you are headed, she then builds a training plan that will not only get you where you want to be, but is flexible to deal with inevitable changes that life requires of an amateur athlete, such as work, injury or illness. If you want success in achieving what you want from your training, Amanda is the coach to help.
